Laying my flesh to rest

When Smiles Cease

It’s hard to be low when you’re expected to be high.

It’s hard to wonder when you’re supposed to have it all figured out.

It’s hard to mope when you’re expected to smile.

It’s hard to doubt when faith should hold it together.

Who can free me of this tangled time?

Who can help come clear my mind?

Who can light the dark & turn it bright?

Who can spring up what’s dead to life?

Pleasant words from past rings true;

Hearts desires still seeks for you.

Willow trees blow in the wind;

Memories follow from when I was a kid.

Achy shoulders,

Hips pop too,

Time is moving;

 dancing with age,

Gracing the fox trot across life’s stage.

A twist here,

A dip there;

Sometimes even getting thrown up in the air.

My mind is unsure,

My smile has ceased,

Only to come out when there’s others to see.

To have an escape,

To pray for release;

Why can I pray for you but often not for me?

Why is it easier to want for another?

Why when growth comes forth we press for others?

Leaving our shine behind;

Casted upon fear,

When there’s something in our heart that we hold dear.

No need to hide,

No need to doubt,

No need to go to the roof tops and shout.

It’s hard to be low when you’re expected to be high.

Don’t live for others keep your eye on the prize.

It’s hard to wonder when you’re supposed to have it all figured out.

Your ways are not my ways I’m directing you out.

It’s hard to mope when you’re expected to smile.

Weeping endures for a night;

 It lasts only a while.

It’s hard to doubt when faith should hold it together.

I’m with you always whether you feel, hear or see;

You’re where you are;

Because you’re in me.

I guide your path,

I light your way,

When you have no idea;

I give you words to say.

I love you deeply;

My word is true.

The joy you bring me no one can do.

You question my ways;

You doubt in your heart.

The way I made you is a work of art.

Angles surround you;

As you labor for harvest;

You don’t see it now but there’s plenty of progress.

So smile when needed,

Frown when times come too.

Before you were a thought;

My love covered you.
